Ocean wave power generator designed by three Ocean Engineering students (Arifian Agusta, Gilang Muhammad Gemilang, and Ilman Kurniadi), Institut Teknologi Bandung was awarded the winner of National Innovation Contest held at Campus Center, Institut Teknologi Bandung on Saturday, February 5, 2011.
Ocean wave power generator relies on movement of the magnets in the tube of a buoy due to successive waves movement. The buoys, which made watertight by Arifian Agusta, Gilang Muhammad Gemilang, and Ilman Kurniadi (Ocean Engineering students class of 2008), was made by a 40 cm x 40 cm x 7 cm plastic box. “The electricity that was collected at each buoy will be transmitted through a cable to the coastal area. “We want to help fisherman with the electricity,” said Gilang.
The winners of the contest that was held by Mechanical Engineering Students Association – ITB gets a prize money of Rp 12.5 million.
The contest which held on February 4 and 5, 2011 at the East Wing of Campus Center ITB resulted in 20 finalists. As many as 8 teams from ITS, 7 teams from ITB, 3 teams from UGM, and 1 team from University of Indonesia and University of Brawijaya, Malang.
